Dr. Dirk Magdahl is a Licensed Professional Counselor specializing in adult and elderly psychotherapy. He maintains a private practice in association with South Texas Behavioral Medicine in San Antonio, Texas.
Dr. Magdahl has over 15 years experience as a clinician working both in Mexico and the United States with a wide variety of clients. He holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology with a Minor in Sociology and a Masters of Arts degree in Counseling with a specialization in Mental Health and Substance Abuse from Saint Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. Later he obtained his Doctorate degree in Human Services and Professional Counseling from Walden University in Minneapolis Minnesota.
He is currently serving as private practitioner working with adults of all ages. Mornings he visits with geriatric patients in both nursing homes and assisted living facilities and afternoons he can be found at his private practice with South Texas Behavioral Medicine.
Among his areas of expertise are stress management, psychophysiology, biofeedback, and working with such issues as burnout, career counseling, and geriatric mental health
In addition, Dr. Magdahl has presented at National conferences and to general audiences on topics ranging from stress management for caretakers, communication skills, balancing work and home life, to a variety of topics related to overall geriatric mental health.
Dr. Magdahl is a practical, interactive, solution-focused therapist. His treatment approach is to provide support and practical feedback to help clients resolve current problems and long-standing patterns. He incorporates a blend of conventional and alternatives approaches, drawing upon a variety of styles and techniques to incorporate what will be most helpful for each client. With sensitivity and compassion, he works with each client to help them build on their strengths to identify and achieve life goals.
